这是爱德华?加德纳在伦敦爱乐乐团唱片公司发行的第六张专辑，也是2025年该品牌20周年庆典系列的第三张专辑，此前已推出《拉赫玛尼诺夫：钟声 & 交响舞曲》与《爱德华?加德纳指挥德沃夏克与舒曼》。
本张布里顿专辑收录多场现场音乐会录音：《安魂交响曲》与《宝塔王子》组曲录制于伦敦皇家节日音乐厅；《冬日之语》则录制于2021年封控季尾声的萨弗伦音乐厅。
《安魂交响曲》—— 一部大胆的早期杰作。创作时布里顿年仅26岁，作品最初受委约为纪念日本帝国建国2600周年而作，却因格调过于肃穆被拒。最终，这部作品成为他唯一一部重要的纯管弦乐巨作，也是对日益逼近的战争威胁的有力回应。
《卫报》（四星）评价：“加德纳素来是杰出的布里顿诠释者，《安魂交响曲》的演绎气势磅礴，前两乐章直击人心的冲击力，最终汇入对永恒宁静的沉思之中。”
《冬日之语》布里顿感人至深的男高音与钢琴声乐套曲，歌词选自托马斯?哈代八首诗作。本次录音为罗宾?霍洛威全新配器的管弦乐版，系世界首录。《今日歌剧》评价：“斯宾斯对歌词细腻入微的情感处理，精准传达出时光流逝中浓烈而内敛的悲怆。”
《宝塔王子》组曲，爱德华?加德纳从布里顿芭蕾舞剧《宝塔王子》中提炼改编而成音乐会组曲，同样为世界首录，实现了布里顿生前未能将全剧改编为戏剧化管弦乐组曲的遗愿。
《泰晤士报》（四星）评价：“在伦敦爱乐乐团打击乐声部清脆而富有脉动的甘美兰风格演奏下，我们仿佛在声音中清晰看见了宝塔王国。”
