本专辑三部作品所采用的独特配器形式，由富有革新精神的卢·哈里森开创，其 1959年创作的协奏曲集中体现了他包容多元文化的美学追求。作品中，常规乐器与经过调试的特殊器物（如洗衣盆、花盆等）一同奏响，色彩斑斓、优雅舒展且充满动感活力。另外两首配套作品均为致敬此曲而作：罗伯特·泽维尔·罗德里格斯的《索奇奎特尔》以虚构的民间音乐唤起古玛雅世界，实现了不同时代与文化的交融；而卡蒂·阿戈奇的协奏曲则在简洁宁静的基调中，融入双调性效果与鲜活的切分节奏。
新英格兰打击乐合奏团由弗兰克·爱泼斯坦于1968年创立，即将迎来建团55周年纪念。乐团已为拿索斯唱片录制两张美国打击乐作品专辑：第一卷（编号 8559683）收录了罗伯特·泽维尔·罗德里格斯的《亡灵节》，并入选2011年《国际音乐网》“年度唱片”；第二卷（编号 8559684）。
爱泼斯坦致力于推广新音乐，其著作《钹乐艺术》（管弦乐团钹演奏者完全指南）现已由哈尔·伦纳德音乐出版社出版发行。
