Queen Rock Montreal is a live album by the British rock band Queen. It was released on 29 October 2007.

It was recorded in Montreal, Quebec, at the Montreal Forum on 24 November and 25 November 1981, the final concerts of The Game Tour. AllMusic described Queen’s performance as being “deliberately theatrical and often majestic”.

This marks the first official release of the film soundtrack to the concert film We Will Rock You on an audio-only format. Unlike the original video release of We Will Rock You, which has been re-released as Queen Rock Montreal, the album and CD features the full show (including “Flash” and “The Hero”) fully remixed.

On November 2023 it was announced that the concert would perform on cinema’s biggest screens with the global release of “QUEEN ROCK MONTREAL”, exclusively in IMAX from 18 January 2024 to 21 January 2024. Due to high demand, this limited theatrical run was extended through to 28 January 2024.

On 14th March 2024, the band’s website announced a new 2-disc release of the film to come out on 10th May of that year, giving the option to watch it in its original full-frame aspect ratio or cropped to 16:9 widescreen as per the 2007 release. This will be available on standard Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray, the latter also featuring optional HDR for both aspect ratios.Essentially, the 2007 release Queen Rock Montreal is the long-delayed official release of the soundtrack to the We Will Rock You concert video, capturing highlights from the group’s two-night stand at the Montreal Forum on November 24 and 25, 1981. This double-disc contains the full set, including the previously unreleased “Flash” and “The Hero,” and it benefits from the ebb and flow of a full concert, giving a broader, fuller sense of Queen at the peak of their power, which they were close to being at the time this was recorded. That is, they were close to the peak of their powers as world-conquering stadium rockers, touring the same set across the globe, perfecting it so it could play in any territory, as if it was rock & roll Esperanto. That may mean that this isn’t as raw or visceral as various live recordings from the ’70s, but it is deliberately theatrical and often majestic. When Queen is thought of as a ridiculous, over-sized arena monster, this is the kind of sound people have in mind, and it’s still grandly entertaining decades later. – Stephen Thomas Erlewine
