作曲家布拉戈耶·贝尔萨（Blagoje Bersa）属于克罗地亚音乐现代主义，从1890年左右持续到1920年，以细腻和声丰富了声音的色彩。他创作了管弦乐、合唱、室内乐、钢琴、歌剧、音乐剧等体裁的作品。
“在作品中，我们看到贝尔萨是一个明显的浪漫主义者，他的语言是由这种音乐风格形成的。首先，是悦耳的意大利旋律，然后是德国浪漫主义的各种大师（瓦格纳、马勒、R·施特劳斯）和维也纳的轻松音乐，在后来的作品中是包含民间元素。贝尔萨独唱歌曲柔和的旋律线，有时会让人想起舒伯特，在舒伯特的影响下，他也创作了几页戏剧性且激动人心的作品。随着时间的推移，贝尔萨的旋律变得越来越原始和简单，本质上他仍然是一个浪漫的人，其主要特征是抒情之美。”——Marija Kuntaric
