Young pianist Fabian Müller, discovered during an exciting recital (Out of Doors) for the ARS Produktion label, is now releasing his second album for Berlin Classics. Brahms continues it, and he offers here the two Rhapsodies Op. 79, as an echo of the previous publication entirely dedicated to the German composer (Ballades Op. 10, 8 Klavierstücke Op. 76, 3 Intermezzi Op. 117). He gives a very fluid and balanced version, without haste, and elegantly sung, like a foretaste of the melancholy of later opuses. These two pages from Brahms' middle period are introduced by Schumann's Second Sonata, the shortest of the three, a veritable storm of feelings that the German musician does not exaggerate, he prefers to breathe and sing as much as possible, even in movement. introductory, So Rasch Wie Möglich, often more rushed. So proposed, this Schumann, collected by essence, more melancholy than dreamer, finds his certain kinship with Johannes Brahms, and the Andantino (Getragen) definitely bears the mark.

The curiosity of this new recital by Fabian Müller lies in the triptych by Wolfgang Rihm, the astonishing and (also) stormy Klavierstück No. 5 "Tombeau", little recorded until today. The second part of the work, Ciacona, entertains memories of Beethoven and Brahms with a real sense of suspense, and the Quasi choir, ending with several striking chords, naturally opens the way for Beethoven's Appassionata. In this multi-recorded sonata since the 1930s, Fabian Müller, disciple of Pierre-Laurent Aimard, seduced by its clarity and its naturalness, which know how to be obstinate. If other recordings show more pronounced lyrical virtues, or more clearly take on the bubbling intensity of the score, Fabian Müller's interpretation, always sensitive, naturally lets the polyphonic profusion of the score explode. The second movement, an Andante absolutely con moto, is particularly irresistible. A very beautiful recital, arguably the best of the pianist to date.
